Activities for American Education Week

 

November 15-21, 2009

 

Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility

 

Broadview

*Students will be allowed to wear hats—“Hats On To Education”

*The students will decorate bags and return them to Broadview Grocery, Frank’s Market and Easy Food Market to give out to customers

*Parents and the Board of Education will be invited to lunch. 

*The students will write a letter to someone whom they appreciate that has been involved in their education.

*The students will write letters to Veterans

 

Clark Memorial

The school will be hosting a book fair

 

Cowan

During this week, the Partners in Education will be invited for lunch.  The faculty and staff will also be treated to lunch and the students will attend an assembly program with author Eddie Bowman otherwise known as Chester Drawers.

 

Decherd

Parents will be invited to eat lunch with their children

 

 

 

Franklin County High School

In celebration of American Education Week, Franklin County High School invites you to attend the annual Fall Arts Festival. This event, scheduled for Tuesday, November 17th at 6 PM, focuses the school and community on the creative and expressive talents of our high school students.  Parents and community are asked to come and enjoy displays prepared by the Art Department, Future Farmers of America, Health Occupations, Cosmetology Class, Textiles Class, Floral Class, and the Foods and Nutrition Class.  There will be presentations from the Music Department, Theater Department, English Department, and the FCHS Cheerleaders in the auditorium.

Huntland

Each day during announcements, an Interact officer will read a famous quote regarding education.

Monday:  Interested students may participate in an essay contest on the topic, “What I like best about my school.”

Tuesday:  Faculty and staff will be honored with sausage and biscuits provided by the Interact Club.

Wednesday:  Support Staff will be honored.

Thursday:  Students dress like their chosen profession.

Friday:  Wear red, white and blue in honor of AEW.

 

North Lake

Monday-Kick off the American Education Week-classes will begin creating school flags and teachers will give students blank cards to make for another teacher/staff member in the school to say “Thanks”

Tuesday-Teacher Trivia-Each teacher will quiz students on questions about themselves

Wednesday-What do you like about your school?  Each class will write or draw what they like about North Lake School.  These will be displayed in the hall.  The class flags will be hung in the front lobby.

Thursday-Support Staff Thanks-Each class will receive the name of a support staff, cafeteria staff, or bus driver and compile a thank you card and a small gift from the class

Friday-Class Switch (Appreciate your fellow workers) Each teacher will be switching with another and teaching a 30 minute lesson

 

North Middle

Monday-AEW Kick-off—the Beta Club will be providing breakfast for the faculty.

Tuesday- Special Assembly with motivational speakers.

Wednesday- Thank You! During homeroom the students will write little “Thank You”      notes and give them to the teacher or staff member of their choice.

Thursday- “Support Staff Day” The student body and faculty will wear a specific color to                 show their appreciation for our support staff.

Friday- “Education is Important” We will encourage the teachers to wear a shirt or hat               from the college that they attended.

 

 

Rock Creek

*There will be an educational quote as a part of daily morning announcements

*There will be a banner for AEW displayed in the main hallway

*Students can wear shirts inside out and will be given a sticker that says,” It will turn out all right with a good education.”

*Alumni Day-You Left Your Mark With Us

Students, teachers, staff, and substitutes-anyone who has been a part of Rock Creek School can come by and sign-in. They will be given a footprint to write in their name, position at RC, dates of attendance and a short statement of advice for today’s students

*Imitation is the best form of flattery-

On Friday students can come looking like their favorite school personnel

 

Sewanee

*Thursday- Patriotic Musical performed by 1st and 2nd graders at 1:15 and 6 PM

*Friday- Book Character Day during morning assembly.  Children come dressed as their favorite book character or author to share in the love and appreciation of reading.

*Motivational calendars will be distributed to the many volunteers and ink pens will be given to the faculty and staff as a small token of their appreciation.

*Parents/guardians will be invited to a turkey and dressing lunch

 

South Middle School

*Monday- County Mayor Richard Stewart will help with  morning announcements.  He will tell the students about AEW week and then ready the daily Positive Promotions Announcement

*Tuesday- A parent will be invited to read the daily Positive Promotions announcement.  Each parent in the afternoon pick-up line will be given a small treat package to say “thank you.”

*Wednesday- Faculty members will provide breakfast for all support workers at SMS.  Each support worker will receive a “Thank You” note with a ticket inside.  Later in the day, there will be a drawing and the staff member holding the winning ticket will receive a gift certificate to Zaxby’s.  A support worker will read the daily Positive Promotions announcement and bus drivers will receive a “thank you” package when they pick up students at the end of the day.

*Thursday- A substitute teacher will read our daily Positive Promotions announcement and each substitute at SMS during the week of AEW will receive a school mug filled with candy and a note of appreciation.

*Friday- SMS will have Fantastic Friday activities.  Members of the community have been invited to teach classes that are either career related or hands-on.  Faculty members will provide breakfast treats for all of the guests.  School Board members and Central Office staff will be invited to observe the Fantastic Friday event and have breakfast.  One of the Fantastic Friday guests will read our Positive Promotions announcement.

 

FCEA (Franklin County Education Association)

They will be doing radio spots and newspaper ads for AEW.  Teachers from each school will be recording the 30 second radio spots.
